This course will cover the fundamentals of High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter (HQHVSN) techniques to safely increase spay/neuter efficiency and reduce surgical time. Measurable educational goals and behavioral objectives include learning and understanding new HQHVSN techniques to increase efficiency and reduce surgical time in dog and cat sterilization surgery.
Webinar Agenda:
This course will present an overview of HQHVSN techniques and why they are important in increasing efficiency and reducing surgical time. The importance of patient safety in HQHVSN will be emphasized.
Specific topics to be taught include:
- Miller’s Knot for secure placement of ligatures.
- Pedicle ties for ovarian pedicle hemostasis in cats.
- Safe and effective disruption of the ovarian suspensory ligament.
- Scrotal approach for castration in puppies and adult dogs.
- Appropriate location of abdominal incision in female dogs and cats.
- Closure of abdominal incisions in females.
- Closure of scrotal incisions in males.
- Appropriate choice of suture material and suture patterns for incisional closure
- Appropriate choice of instrumentation for HQHVSN.
- Proper application and placement of a tattoo to indicate that the animal has been sterilized.
